CoSN K-12 GenAI Readiness Workshops

Training Designed for District Teams from 2-5 Participants
The Building Capacity for Generative AI in K-12 Education project equips school systems with the tools, training, and support needed to approach generative AI thoughtfully and strategically. Designed to serve districts of all sizes and contexts, the initiative helps education leaders evaluate their readiness across seven key areas—including leadership, operations, data, technology, security, legal considerations, and academic AI literacy. Participants gain guidance in assessing current capabilities, identifying future goals, and taking actionable steps toward implementation—all grounded in the CoSN/CGCS K-12 Gen AI Maturity Tool.

Assessing Readiness in Seven Domains
- Leadership: Covers strategy, legislative and admin rules, use policy and equity.
- Operations: Covers procurement and staffing.
- Data: Covers governance, quality and privacy.
- Technical: Covers identity and access management, tracking and monitoring, technical controls and more.
- Security: Covers security safeguards and cybersecurity training.
- Legal/Risk: Covers legal remediation, risk management and loss notification
- AI Literacy: Covers AI curriculum development, professional development and more.

Meet the Regional CoSN Trainer

David Berner is the Technology Integration Program Coordinator at SWWC, where he leads and supports technology integration efforts across member and organizational schools. He manages a team of technology integration specialists working in the field, ensuring they have the tools and guidance needed to support educators and students effectively.
David also directs SWWC’s A.I.D.E. (Artificial Intelligence in District Education) program, coordinating our newsletter content, leading AI trainings for school districts, and consults with districts on developing GenAI district guidance.
He holds certifications as an ISTE Certified Educator, a Google Certified Trainer, and is a CoSN AI Regional Trainer, furthering his commitment to empowering schools with thoughtful and effective technology integration.
