Event Details
Join us for a practical and timely seminar focused on the legal issues school leaders face in supporting students with disabilities and supervising special education services and staff. This session will provide school administrators with relevant updates, guidance, and real-world application related to special education law, student discipline, data practices, and employment-related considerations impacting special education programming.
Topics will include:

• Data privacy and educational records practices
• Employment-related issues impacting special education staff and services
• Practical guidance for building and district leadership teams
• Strategies to reduce risk while supporting effective student programming
Presenter: Mick Waldspurger is a shareholder with Squires, Waldspurger & Mace, P.A., where he represents Minnesota and Wisconsin school districts in areas including special education, labor and employment law, student discipline, data practices, and school governance. He is known for providing practical and proactive legal guidance to school leaders and has extensive experience in litigation, due process hearings, arbitration, and administrative proceedings.
Mick is a frequent presenter at school workshops, trainings, and statewide conferences, sharing practical legal insight with educators and administrators. He is a member of the Minnesota Council of School Attorneys and previously served as a law clerk to Justice Donald Steinmetz of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Target Audience: This seminar is designed for superintendents, principals, special education directors/coordinators, assistant principals, student support leaders, and other district administrators involved in student services, compliance, and special education decision-making. School psychologists, due process staff, and other related service leaders may also find the session beneficial. Participants will leave with practical knowledge and tools to support legally sound and student-centered decision making within their schools and districts.

Requests should be made by an individual with a disability who needs auxiliary aids, closed captioning, and services, or by someone acting on that individual’s behalf. Requests may be made either in writing or orally. Requests need to be made and received by Deecy at least two weeks in advance of the program, activity or service in question. SWWC will address all requests but may not be able to arrange for the provision of an appropriate auxiliary aid, closed captioning or service if notice is not received two weeks in advance of the program, activity, or service. SWWC requires a notice of three business days to cancel an accommodation request. If an individual fails to give notice of cancellation three business days prior to the event, SWWC reserves the right to bill the individual’s school district/agency for this expense.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be received by 4:30pm on the date noted in your registration confirmation email to qualify for a full refund, after which all registrations are final, and no refunds will be issued. Substitution of attendees from the same district/organization will be allowed up to the day of the event. In the event a workshop is canceled by SWWC, a full refund will be given. SWWC will notify registered attendees that the refund will be occurring and will post on the account for the credit card utilized for payment. This cancellation policy, including specific cancellation details provided in event registration information, will be followed when determining if a refund will be issued for cancellations that are not the decision of SWWC.
